Also known as Bucktoe Cemetery, this is a restoration of the original cemetery. The African Union Church later moved to E. Linden street in Kennett Square.
The Chestnut Grove Annex Cemetery was established for the use of the borough’s frican-AMerican population in 1895; it is the annex to the Chestnut Grove Cemetery on East Gay street at Garfield, which was established in 1862.
Address marker for this cemetery is based on the location shown for the African Methodist church in the 1873 atlas. The cemetery is located on a hillside and is wooded. There is a stairway leading up to the graveyard.
Established in 1921 when the graveyard for the Mt. Zion AME church in Devon was full, it was first called the Devon Cemetery Association, but later changed to the Theodore Ricks Memorial Cemetery.
