Andrew Hamilton

Andrew Hamilton

Andrew2 Hamilton, (George1), 25 January 1835-5 February 1857. 1 Andrew was the fifth child and third son of George Hamilton and Jane Patchell and was born in either New Brunswick or Nova Scotia. Andrew’s gravestone states that he died “Feb’y 5, 1857” at an age of “22 Years 11 D’s”. Andrew’s gravestone can be found in Pioneer Burying Ground located on the north side of Eagle Street on Part of Lot 93, Concession 1E, in the town of Newmarket, Ontario. Gravestones and gravestone fragments of other relatives preserved in this cemetery include Andrew’s father, George Hamilton; maternal grandfather Edward Patchell; maternal uncle David Clarke Patchell; and two nieces, Jane and Agnes Ellen, children of his older brother James. Many notable early settlers of the area are interred in the cemetery and it has been transcribed by the Ontario Genealogical Society. The 1851 Canada West census that was taken in early 1852 states that Andrew would be 17 years of age on his next birth day. 2 Evidently, Andrew spent about half of his life in the Maritimes and the latter half in Canada West (Ontario).

Eastern Chester County is home to many communities that comprise part of the Main Line western suburbs of Philadelphia, while part of its southernmost portion is considered suburban Wilmington, along with southwest Delaware County .
